A Hi-Leg recliner is a La-Z-Boy silhouette that reads like a wingback or occasional chair when closed – tapered wood legs lift the base off the floor, and the recline mechanism is hidden inside the frame. The Scarlett in Grey is one of the more formal-looking recliners we sell for that reason.
When closed, the Scarlett looks like a regular armchair – no visible mechanism, no rocker base, just wood legs and a clean silhouette. Recline via the side handle; the legrest lifts out from under the seat. Good for formal living rooms where a traditional rocker recliner would look too casual.
The trade-off is that Hi-Leg recliners don’t rock. If you want both rock and recline, the Vail or Collage give you both.
Questions & Answers
What makes a Hi-Leg recliner different from a rocker recliner?
Hi-Leg recliners have exposed tapered wood legs and no rocker base – they look like formal occasional chairs when closed, so nothing signals “recliner” until you engage the mechanism.
Does the Scarlett rock?
No – Hi-Leg recliners sit on fixed wood legs, not a rocker base. If rocking is important, look at the Vail, Collage, Jasper, or Joshua.
Will the Scarlett fit in a formal living room?
That’s exactly what it’s built for. The tapered legs and clean back read more like a wingback than a bulky recliner.
How much wall clearance does the Scarlett need?
Plan about a foot of wall clearance behind the seat when fully reclined. Not a wall-away design.
Can I see the Scarlett in the showroom?
Yes – Kensington has the La-Z-Boy store built inside our Northfield showroom, and formal-scale recliners like the Scarlett are typically on the floor.
